Fossil Clams (Mercenaria permagna)

From the Early Pleistocene (1–2 million years old), straight from Ruck’s Pit, Ft. Drum, Florida.
These clams are celebrated by fossil collectors worldwide. They make a one-of-a-kind gift for fossil or nature lovers—or anyone who never had the chance to hunt at Ruck’s Pit. We also offer some clam and shell pieces without bases. How many people can say they own a piece of Florida’s ancient sea? With one of these, you can! Plus, they make fantastic conversation pieces.
I dug chunks of matrix and carefully sculpted them into unique, small works of art. The matrix contains a variety of different fossils such as: Mercenaria clams, arc shells, and whelk shells. Some pieces are set in dark gray coquina/limestone, others showcase calcite crystals or layered calcite, and some feature a combination of all. Under UV light, they glow—ranging from white to pale yellow-green, with some showing short-lived green phosphorescence or both.
